Oh wow! Governance for nonprofit boards is long overdue! This accessible book (in plain and easy-to-follow English) is an invaluable resource and every NPO board member, trustee and member of a committee should have a copy. Written by one of South Africa’s preeminent non-profit law specialists, Ricardo Wyngaard, and edited by the equally esteemed Nicole Copley, Governance for nonprofit boards should be required reading. Building upon the gold standard in governance – King IV – and highlighting the key points from the Independent Code, the book is, quite simply, outstanding.

"I have just read ‘How to induct Board Members for NPO’s’ by Ricardo Wyngaard. This is a must for every company secretary and CEO of a NPO. In fact the bulk of the advice is as relevant to any organisation. The practical yet solid suggestions in each chapter are worth every cent. The essence of the book is getting it right at the senior leadership level of being responsible stewards, and how critical the induction process is to this process. It is fundamental to the ultimate impact and success of the organisation in engaging with the beneficiaries they are privileged to serve. I trust that this will be the first of many practical books by Ricardo on critical issues around applied governance in the NPO sector." Malcolm R Boyd
Practical reference guide on NPO governance, March 12, 2015"
The book breaks down a highly complex subject matter into easy to understand narrative. The author has written from a highly practical perspective based on field experience. It is a useful tool for ongoing reference on the subject. Highly recommended."
“This book is more than an exposition of the law and voluntarism in South Africa. It’s the culmination of a purposed life of a profoundly skilled lawyer who have chosen the sector of voluntarism and served it through the law. Ricardo Wyngaard’s pioneering contribution to this sector and the application of the legislative framework is deeply embedded in this insightful book. What makes this book significant is that it is written from an applied perspective; the subtext being that this sector remains critical to South Africa’s transformative societal agenda and as a whole provide pointers for those with an interest in its structural and organisational rebirth.”

"This very interesting and legally well researched book by Ricardo Wyngaard will be a useful resource for NPOs in South Africa. Since volunteers also have legal rights I wish to highly recommend this book to assist NPOs in managing their volunteers. It can save NPOs lots of money and time knowing how to engage with volunteers in the right way. I have already recommended this book to all my clients as a matter of urgency! Thanks Ricardo for putting together this much needed resource!!"

"The guide provides easy to follow and easy to read reference guide. This applies to both individuals and organisations. In a simplistic manner the guide takes the readers through some of the necessary legislations that are of importance in the NPO sector. The section that provides sample volunteer policy and five schedule namely; sample volunteer agreement, volunteer indemnity form, volunteer information form, emergency contact form and volunteer check list is very useful especially for SME sector that usually lack the financial resource to employ the services of professional to prepare these documents. Organisations can, with permission, be able to adapt the documents for their use and accordingly be able to comply with basic legislative requirements of administrative needs in the sector."
